Sing the Gloaming

Sing the Gloaming is a collaboration between myself and artist/musicians Tommy Perman and Rob St. John, taking its inspiration from my research into the evolution of language.

It's a project on light, language and landscape, created using experimental art and music, featuring some of Scotland’s finest vocalists: Kenny Anderson, Nerea Bello, Aidan Moffat, Emily Scott, Su Shaw, Hanna Tuulikki and Andrew Wasylyk. The music is based around the evolution of words relating to light that begin with “gl-” in English. These phonaesthemes have the sound and meaning that they do due to their shared evolution from a common ancestral form spoken around 5000 years ago.

It exists both as a 10 inch record and book released by Blackford Hill, and as a variety of sound installations.
